What kind of difficulties were you experiencing before you came to The Hearing Center at Quail Creek?
I always had hearing difficulties but I didn’t always know it. Hearing test after hearing test, since I can remember, the doctors would always tell me I am ‘borderline deaf’. But I disregarded and claimed, “I can hear just fine!” But once I came to The Hearing Center at Quail Creek, I realized, “Maybe I don’t hear as well as I think I do.”
How were your feelings regarding the thought of hearing aids?
The thought of hearing aids was an absolute ‘out of the question’ at first for me. I was 21 years old at the time I received them, though the idea had been introduced to me since I was 16. I kept saying no, kept saying that I am not at the age of needing hear aids yet, kept thinking how embarrassing for me.
How do you feel about your hearing aids now that you have them. How have your feelings changed?
My feelings toward hearing aids have changed drastically now that I have them. I work in a professional environment, where clients speak to me about very important and detailed information. A doctor once told my mother, “It is amazing how she is an ‘A’ student in school, how she is so smart, how she speaks so clearly, with as much hearing loss as she has.” Now that I have my hearing aids, I often wonder, “How did I hear anything?”
Would you recommend your family and friends to consider a hearing aid consultation?
They are truly a blessing for me. I find myself panicking if I don’t have a battery and one goes low! I cannot live without them – would not live without them. Despite the embarrassments I had at first, thinking I am too young to need these and no one else my age has these, I would not give them up. I am blessed that I was able to afford these hearing aids, that we even have the technology to help people like me who are just born this way. Life is not about having to be the ‘norm’ or fitting in – it’s about enjoying what God has blessed us with.

I never realized how great of a blessing it is to be able to hear until I feared that I might lose my ability to do so. My ears began ringing constantly earlier this Fall causing my business and daily tasks, such as talking on the phone, more difficult. My passion for listening to and playing music was made less enjoyable because of the constant ringing as well.
I thought that the ringing was something that I would have to deal with for the rest of my life until I went to Quail Creek ENT. I cannot express how happy I am that I met Dr. Cunningham and his audiologist, Maegan Laughlin. The process of having my hearing tested then finding the right hearing aids for me was made very easy by the professionalism and kindness of these people. Thanks to them, when wearing hearing aids, not only is the ringing gone, but my hearing is great.
I knew that I had made the right choice in getting my hearing aids when I walked out of the office and could hear my cowboy boots clicking on the ground for the first time in years. My day to day life is much easier and I can now enjoy conversations in noisy places and music without the constant ringing in my ears. I also have the added bonus of always having a pair of head phones to listen to music from my iPod or talk hands free on my cell phone.
